Cheng Fumin, President of China Gold Association, Talks about his Impression of Zijin

“Fujian’s gold production ranks No 5 in the country, and this is a contribution made by Zijin”

Before he attended the National Conference on Gold Sci-Tech Work and Popularization of Technological held recently in Xiamen, and before he made the keynote speech at the meeting, Cheng Fumin, President of China Gold Association, talked about his impression of Zijin to the guests of the gold circle from across the country. 

He said: “The reason why this conference chose to convene in Xiamen is that a growing and expanding Zijin is emerging in Fujian. Zijin is a bright star rising in recent years in the gold industry. Its emergence set the precedent of gold industry in Fujina Province and broke various records in gold production in Fujian. Last year, the gold output of Fujian Province ranked No 5 in the whole country. This is the contribution of Zijin.”

He said: “Zijin gives high priority to technological innovation. The technical content of Zijin is very high. It also attaches great importance to the application of science and technology in the production practice, and transforms technology into productivity in a timely manner. Zijin respects knowledge and talent. The effect of Zijin’s technological innovation is very good. Many comrades suggested a visit and study at Zijin, and I gave my consent to it at once. The conference has offered us a chance to have a thorough visit of Zijin.”

He also said: “I haven’t been to Zijin before, but I have learnt some information about Zijin from the State Gold Administration Bureau and the press. The State Gold Administration Bureau and the press have had very good reflections on Zijin. This time when we go to Zijin, we will have the chance of learning, and we should learn well from it. They have done very well in the technological progress. We should learn carefully.”

“Zijin is Farsighted Enough to Invest in Science and Technology”

The title of the second part of Cheng Fumin’s keynote report Enhance the Consciousness of Rejuvenating the Gold Industry through Science and Technology and Strive to Create a New phase in the Gold Sci-Tech Work is: The Goal and Task for Current Sci-Tech Work in the Gold Industry. When talking about the subject of “Reinforce the technological input to promote the industrialization and commercialization of technological achievements”, Cheng Fumin stressed his tone on the content of the following paragraph:

“At present quite a number of enterprises haven’t placed their main-body position properly, and driven by the short-term benefit, some enterprise leaders put undue emphasis upon output and product value, having no time to care about technological input.”

At this point, Cheng Fumin put in the following remarks: “Not long ago, Li Da, Deputy General Manager of Zijin Mining Company, came to Beijing for a meeting. He said to me that he has to study now still, and he is going to Britain for further study. I thought that Li Da already owns a doctorate, and he still feels that his knowledge is not enough. And the company will send him to study abroad, why? As I see it, Chen Jinghe doesn’t just eye at the present, rather, the long term in future. Chen Jinghe won’t just see the current good development of the enterprise. He will see the competition the enterprise is going to face and the need of the enterprise for future development. Zijin has made considerable input in science and technology, which has shown the vision of a leader. Therefore, with regard to the sci-tech input and the long-term objective of the enterprise growth, we the leaders should have vision.
